This program focuses on transitioning swimmers from Swim Team Prep to Swim Team. Swimmers should have endurance skills and know the basics techniques for all 4 strokes. Swimmers should be able to swim 50-yards of freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly to join. Swimmers will do more advanced sets and learn advanced technique skills.

This program focuses on transitioning swimmers from Swim Lessons to Swim Team Prep. Swimmers should have basic endurance skills and should be able to swim without help in the lap pool. Swimmers should be able to swim 25-yards of freestyle and breaststroke and tread water for 1 minute to join. Swimmers will learn to build endurance as well as learn the foundations of each stroke in this program.

The Valley of the Sun YMCA believes that swimming is an essential life skill and offers a wide range of swimming options to improve skills, build confidence, and teach water safety, including swim team options. Our Recreational swim team is focused on refining the swim strokes previously learned in swim lessons and prepping participants for a competitive environment. Recreational swim participants will be assessed for proficiency of the four main strokes: Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, and Butterfly, before programming starts. Please sign up for an assessment if the participant has not previously been a part of the Recreational team.

The Recreational Track provides an entry-level swim team experience. This track provides the whole Aquatics experience of stroke development and age-appropriate conditioning without a focus on competition or time commitment. This track is ideal for swimmers who have just completed the YMCA swim lesson program. Fun swim meets and other events are offered and participation is optional. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle.

Our Mighty Mahi Swim program offers a fun and engaging environment for recreational swimmers to train, grow, and shine! Participants will build skills through daily practice and have the opportunity to compete and showcase their talents in our valley-wide YMCA league—all while enjoying friendly competition and team spirit.
